Low carbohydrate: Ovarian cysts are often a part of what is known as metabolic syndrome. That is a condition where the body cannot handle the amount of carbohydrates being consumed. Keep in mind that carbs are only used for fuel, and the average person only needs about 100 grams per day. A 12oz soda has about 30 grams and so do 2 pieces of bread. Most people eat much more than they need.

No dietary solutions: There are no specific foods that treat pain for a cyst.  You could try taking over the counter Tylenol (acetaminophen) to start.  Follow the instructions on the package regarding the dose.  Some women find a little relief if they hold something cool against their lower abdomen like a water bottle filled with ice water.

Avoid lots of soy: Sometimes functional cysts - which are cysts that resolve on their own - can take longer to resolve if a woman is taking estrogen.  Soy is a plant estrogen, and it can cause irregular periods if a woman is taking a large amount daily.  It may make a cyst take longer to resolve.

Healthy foods: I don't know of any foods that would affect an ovarian cyst.  But definitely it seems that a lot of your health issues come from abdomen area.  Make sure to eat a lot of fiber.  I'm likely kale salads right now.  Blueberries are another super food that's in season now. But fiber to keep your intestines regular is #1. Also stay well hydrated with water in these summer months.

In that meeting, your doctor will listen to you, perform a throrough examination and possibly order labs or other tests. Based on this information, he/she will be able to tell you what's wrong and what to do about it.

: Transvaginal ultrasound will usually provide a more clear picture of the ovaries, but since her doctor is agreeable then she can at least start with an abdominal ultrasound. If her doctor then feels it is not adequate then the two of them can discuss what is a reasonable approach going forward.

As long: As there are no findings worrisome for ovarian cancer it is reasonable to follow this cyst with an ultrasound in 3 months. Cancers tend to have soft tissue parts in addition to the cystic areas. They may also have increased blood flow compared to cysts. Best to discuss this with your doctor.
