Time for a change...: Zantac (ranitidine) in doses less than 100mg (otc dosing is 75mg) effectively inhibits basal & nighttime acid output by the stomach. However, food-stimulated acid production & tobacco/ nsaid/ alcohol injury may need bigger "guns." prescription-strength doses of zantac (ranitidine) are 150-300mg twice daily. Stop tobacco, nsaids, & drinking alcohol, & ask your doctor if time to switch medication or to get further testing.

gastritis from alcohol. how long does it usually take to heal when you only eat healthy/light food, drink and take what's recommended?(i.e. omeprazol)

Should be: Feeling better after 2wks use of omeprazole,  however, if there are still constant use of triggers such as continuous use of alcohol, even caffeine or spicy food, symptoms can persist or healing delayed. Ulcers need to be ruled out if you have aa healthey diet, GI specialist can do those evaluation and rule out other causes of gastritis. Good luck.

can  diet cranberry juice from oceanspray be good as juice to heal h.pylori and mild gastritis.also what fruits and food to help heal the infection?

Probably not: The mild gastritis is likely caused by the h. Pylori infection. H pylori is a bacteria that attacks stomach lining. Effective treatment  is a 10-14 days of antibiotics and a  proton pump inhibitor ( like omeprazole) to decrease acid. Lack of treatment may lead to chronic stomach pain and/or stomach ulcers. There is no good evidence that cranberry juice or specific foods are good treatments.

we determined i have a bout of gastritis brought on by past food poisoning. my digestion is still not on track. antacids offer no relief, and i have been eating bland for weeks. what else can i do to heal?

Life style changes: Gastritis can be related to a variety of things including lack of exercise, excessive caffeine, alcohol or sour foods, sleeping soon after eating, increased stress, otc anti-inflammatory use. H pylori infection is another cause. Implement lifestyle changes and may need, if not already on them medications like omeprazole for 6-12 weeks. If still persists will need re-evaluation.

i have all the symptoms of gastritis or ulcers. bloating,pains,spicy food makes it act up more. can metamucil help.anything better then pepcid to help heal?bloating is the main symptom now and some uncomfortable fatigue with burning muscles working?

: Omeprazole may work better than pepcid. Metamucil helps constipation. For thus, make an appointment with your GP especially with the fatigue and burning muscles. If you have other symptoms such as weight loss, abnormal exam or bloodwork, or a family history of cancer, your GP may either refer you to a gastroenterologist or check for a bacterial infection in the stomach. This can get better!

Accepted Answer

Diet: First, stop irritants such as alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, meds like advil (ibuprofen) or aspirin, carbonated beverages, fruit juices. Then eat a fiber-rich diet. Foods containing flavonoids, like apples, celery, cranberries (including cranberry juice), onions, garlic, and tea may stop the growth of h. Pylori, the bacteria that may be causing it.
Avoid high fat foods.

Gastritis: Avoid tomato based sauces. Avoid citrus fruits, coffee and chocolate. Greasy, oily foods should be avoided. Most certainly avoid Aspirin and nsaids(ibuprofen , naproxen, Meloxicam etc).

Bland foods.: Bland, non-irritating foods are probably best, like strained vegetables, non-spicy or acidic foods.  Basic breads, oats, and fruits like prunes may also help.

Only if bothers: There is no data to suggest that foods actually aggravate gastritis.  However you can have pain with certain foods like spicy food and you should avoid those foods.
