See Your Doctor: Your 10 mos old has "very thick toenails since birth". Congenital anomalies of the nails, hair, skin, teeth can be caused by a group of genetic defects called Ectodermal Dysplasias, of which there are numerous types. Involved body parts can be poorly developed or absent. Nails can be thick, misshapen or rough but usually cause no problems. See your doctor for diagnosis, genetic history, &amp; therapy.

Examination.: The only way to be sure a child has an ear infection is to look at the eardrum.  See a doc and have this done, if your child is sick, please.

Do not give.: There are many studies showing that over-the-counter cough medicines do not work for children, and in fact, many can cause side effects in some kids. In my opinion, these medicines do not work and do more harm. I hope you child feels better soon.

Several ideas: Bananas, applesauce, most cereals &amp; breads are natural constipators so reducing or eliminating them is usually helpful. Peaches, pears &amp; prunes are good losseners, so they can help. Many kids that age respond to full strength prune juice at 2-3 oz twice a day with loosening  up within 3 days.

BRAT diet: We generally recommend the 'BRAT' diet for people with diarrhea, as it contains foods which help bind the stools.  Things like Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast, plain chicken, pastas, etc.  Electrolyte solutions such as Pedialyte help prevent dehydration and are better than sugary sodas or juices, which can make diarrhea worse.  Some people need to avoid dairy while they are having loose stools.

Lentils: Lentils is a fine food and as long as the baby hasn' t tired of eating them thats fine. Just remember lentils are heavy gas producers.

Overall the opinion: is No you do not need to be taking Hair vitamins while you are lactating, though any harmful effects on the baby is not immediately known.  It IS known that any vitamins you take while breastfeeding WILL be transferred to the baby, especially the fat soluble ones (ADEK). Most women grow hair faster while they are pregnant or lactating anyway as part of the natural effects of progesterone.

Yogurt: Yes, of course. Initially i would give him plain yogurt without the fruit.

Reply: Wart is usually a benign viral infection of the skin. Treatment varies with the part of body that has the warts. Usually in young infants observation is first choice.
