Measure every drink: Just need to measure each and every drink and limit the total intake to amount of fluid restriction. Depending upon the condition requiring fluid restriction, it is better to restrict salt as well. It is not usually necessary to look at water content of every solid food but need to watch for fruits like watermelon.

See below: Bananas, milk/dairy, avocados, carrots, baked potatoes, orange juice, tomatoes, salmon, raisins. These are only a few. Why exactly are you trying to lower your potassium levels? Do you have kidney disease or any other reason to be cautious of your potassium level?

what are some good foods for someone with a restricted diet due to pku?

Vegetables are OK: Phenylketonuria is treated with a low phenylalanine diet, which means most proteins are verbotten. But people with pku need expert guidance from a metabolic dietician and biochemical geneticist to do it right. Too much protein restriction can be just as bad. You need to have your phenylalanine blood levels checked regularly. If you are a woman of childbearing age, you have to be even more careful.

on the white diet am i allowed white wine?

AVOID: That is an interesting question. I would try and stay away from wine before your colonoscopy because of all the restrictions. It will not be for that long.

GE: You can probably advance to solid food that is not fried. Boiled, broiled or baked with limited fat contents. You may want to avoid lactose containing food since transient deficiency in the enzyme that breaks down lactose can occur. You may get alternative point of view from other physicians

YES: It is called leap testing and is available in some physicians offices you may have to call around to see who has it.  This test looks as leukocyte activity with a very large number of foods.  Some insurances will pay for it with specific diagnoses.The cost for this test is $600-$800 out of pocket if your insurance doesnt' cover it.

Potassium. : Most foods contain potassium and low potassium foods are allowed in kidney failure. Some foods that are low in potassium are apples, all kinds of berries, pastas, rice,  beans cereals. What's more food can be leached to remove potassium this applies primarily to fruits and vegetables.

Oils and Fat: Depending on what you mean by oily, there are several answers.  Actually certain fatty foods are good for you like avocados, olive oil and coconut oil.  Artificial oils are not so good.  Deep fat frying, especially with animal lard, usually is not very good for you.  The omega 3 fish oils, found in salmon and tuna, are good for you, but still don't eat these too frequently.  Remember moderation!
