: Please follow up with your OB. Prenatal vitamins and Vit D in usual doses are usually recommended. Avoid supplements that are not approved and studied in clinical trials.

my 3 week old exclusively breastfeeding infant has 8-9 dirty diapers a day (many are smaller and many are also wet).. is that a normal amount? mom was on keflex for a week early on but recently stopped. could that have caused gut biome issues?

Accepted Answer

: A breast fed infant can poop with every feed, often just smears, or a diaper filler once a week. By itself this is not alarming or a sign of any gut issue. As long as the kid is a good feeder &amp; seems to be filling out/active I would not worry about it.

Vitamin E and Folic : Food high in vitamin e and Folic Acid help decrease red blood cell breakdown in g6pd.  Definitely avoid fava beans since they are a known cause of red blood cell breakdown in the blood. Mom could be careful to chose for herself milk formulas which have no traces of soy or soya beans since soy and red wine, and blueberries could trigger g6pd.

A balanced diet: Breastfeeding moms burn about 500 cal per day producing milk. They need to eat a healthy, balanced diet with high fiber, adequate protein, plenty of fluid, and a moderate amount of "healthy" fats. Pay special attention to getting enough iron, calcium and vitamin d, as these are nutrients many women lack. Also, keep taking your "prenatal" vitamins!

Talk to a MD with...: Experience working with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. For some women with high risk pregnancies, breastfeeding is not recommended during the pregnancy. Some women do tandem breastfeed.  However it is key to discuss this with your ob/gyn. Get clarification from your doctor please.

Consider pregnancy: Breastfeeding does not always prevent pregnancy especially if menstruation has resumed. Chances for pregnancy, if breastfeeding over 6 months is about 6%, much less if menses have not resumed. Weight gain or loss is also related to caloric intake. Worthwhile having pregnancy test. Increase exercise &amp; practice portion control at meals if not pregnant. Good Luck.

There  better combos: Suggest Miralax (polyethylene glycol) and DSS,adjust dose for effect

Not recommended : Cyproterone Acetate + Ethinylestradiol (ALTHEA) is not recommended for pregnant women. Breastfeeding mothers should not take Cyproterone Acetate + Ethinylestradiol (ALTHEA). This can reduce the volume of breast milk. Breastfeeding women can use progestin-only pills. Talk to your Dr for an alternative prescription.
