can folliculits heal on its own?

Depends: An isolated follicular infection in an otherwise healthy person would heal on its own. However, if the person is diabetic, has vascular disease, venous insufficiency or obesity, it would be prudent to seek care to forestall spreading of infection.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Skin infection: Folliculitis is an infection of a hair follicle ( hence the name).  Any hair bearing skin can be affected.  It is most common on the face, neck and groin. Anything that irritates the hair follicle can  cause this.   Makeup,  work related chemicals,  tight fitting  clothes that rub the skin, and sweat  are often involved in blocking the follicles.  Bacterial infection follows the irritation.

the simple answer is that herpes is very painful. It often appears initially as a cluster of blisters and then the top of the sore deteriorated and there is open sores underneath.

Folliculitis can be an infection or an irritation of the skin. It is not usually blistering or as painful as herpes.
