OFTEN...: After all, most mom's have baby showers. And most mom's buy or get gifts of burp cloths and bibs.  There is a big reason to have stocks of these for a baby. And this is because all babies spit up and many do it frequently. I am always shocked by how many parents prepared for spitting up and then are shocked and worried when baby does it. Spit up is fine unless it hurts or baby doesnt gain weight.

Common finding: Babies will commonly bring up anything in their stomach with a wet burp.Timing can be before, during, after or long after a feeding. The issue is labeled reflux and is exceedingly common up to a kids first birthday. I often call these the happy spitters since they are often ready to feed within moments of spewing.

GERD: If you are having food come back up and not making yourself do it, then it sounds like you have reflux, a condition where the stomach contents comes back up into the throat/mouth or out altogether. Make sure you are not overeating, reduce caffeine, eat small frequent meals, and if these don't help the symptoms subside, talk to your family or GI doctor about other interventions.

Many causes: There are many causes for spitting up blood, including nose bleeding, dental or oral pathology. It may be coming from the airway as in coughing up blood (hemoptysis) or coming from the GI tract as in vomiting blood (hematesis). It would be best if you see your doctor for this problem.

Spit + Mouth: If indeed the blood is from spit (mouth) you might have an infected tooth, periodontal disease, or soft tissue lesion.  The blood could also be from a nose bleed or tonsillitis.
