Do not tae it again: Hives is a serious adverse drug reaction to the medication prescribed, in this case fluoxetine. The medication should not be taken again but a different antidepressant could be tried.

Neither: It was the  first ssri & has been around the longest & has been shown to be safe it has the longest half life so usually no discontinuance sx--it's not addicting.

Why substitute?: Prozac (fluoxetine) has long acting metabolites and therefore usually does not need to be tapered off unless their are other issues.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy & relaxation training would seem to be a better choice than more and certainly unproven homeopathic herbal choices. Dealing with the underlying cause of symptoms is always
the better choice than band aids.

20-30 days: The half-life is 4-6 days with chronic use. We multiply that by 5 to get the elimination half-life which would then be 20-30 days. There are metabolizes that can hang around longer.

Probably -- but ?: Why did you stop the prozac (fluoxetine)?   And how are you with the symptoms for which it was prescribed?  Plus, what are you hoping maca will do for you?  All these things are best discussed with your own doctor, who knows you best.  If you were depressed, maca is not likely to help you with that, so i'm concerned that you might not be receiving treatment you need.  Be well.

Bipolar pts should: Try to never change meds without a discussion with their treating psychiatrist.High risk of destabilization .Any way to hang in there or get a phone consult or a message to the doc?
