Contaminated: Having more than 2 kinds of bacteria in such numbers means the urine contacted your labia; the results don&#x27;t show which (if any) bacteria are in the urine and maybe causing a urinary tract infection (UTI). If your doctor believes UTI is possible and culture necessary for best treatment, you&#x27;ll need to have another test, with careful attention to &quot;clean catch&quot; collection of the urine specimen.

If there is infection then there should be more then 100000 colonies of one bacteria but if there are 2-3 different organisms in urine culture then it is called mixed flora and we generally recommend to repeat urine culture for better accuracy.

: It means the urine dipstick test detects heavy (3+) occult blood. However, please note that dipstick test uses reagent to detect hemoglobin ( a chemical test) so positive occult blood is not always equal to the presence of red blood cells in the urine. Microscopic exam needs to be done to confirm the presence of red blood cells, i.e. true hematuria. More than 3 red blood cells/hpf is abnormal.

However, if one or more of the tests are positive, it is generally sent to the reference lab for confrimatory testing, and this can takes several days or even a week or more, depending on how busy the lab is.

Urine Culture: Usually the lab will return results of a urine culture within 3-5 days.  The bacteria need time to grow so, depending on when the sample was collected, then shipped to lab, then analyzed it could take up to 5 days.

Any time now.: The urine desk in microbiology checks each urine culture for growth daily. If the urine is heavily infected, the culture could show positive results even after 24 hours. Most urine cultures are finalized after 3 days. If there is no growth, contamination, or uncommon bacterial species, processing could take longer. If you don't get a response contact your doctor's office, who can contact the lab.
