my boyfriend gets blood in his stool after eating tomato based foods such as spaghetti sauce or tomato soup. is there anything that can be done?

Food in stool: Boyfriend is likely seeing  red from the tomato sauce and tomato bits that are in the stool. If it occurs when he is not having spaghetti sauce and tomatoes then he should see a doctor and check it out. If it is inside the stool then it is probably bleeding from the intestine. If blood is outside the stool and around it is likely from hemorrhoids.  Ask pharmacist for card to test stool for blood.

i sometimes get heart palpitations after eating tomatoes. why?

Need a monitor: Although the palpitations you are experiencing may be a kind of "allergic" response, that is not likely unless there are other manifestations (like a skin rash) as well. It may be that you have an underlying arrhythmia or short circuit in the heart that is exacerbated by eating tomatoes. A cardiac monitor with a good tomato feast would help provide the answer.

after eating tomatoes and peppers my eyes swell up? can i be tested for allergies to nightshade plants?

Accepted Answer

Yes you can: but history is more relevant than testing, if testing proves negative and you are still positive that specific foods cause the symptoms, then history is more reliable. 
Meanwhile, avoid whatever is causing such symptoms, and keep an antihistamine handy,and maybe an epinephrine shot,should symptoms progress  to breathing difficulty(unlikely), look 4 an allergist in ur area for evaluation, good luck

Mgt: From your description, your symptoms may be related to GERD. I would advise trying an over the counter anti reflux medication. If the symptoms persist, a visit with your  PCP is indicated. 
In the meantime, avoid fried and acidic foods.

May have allergies: See your doctor for allergy testing or have your doctor examine your ears to seeif you have a rash or some other other cause of this problem.  She will be able to tell you if you have a rash or peeling skin during the exam.

Vitamin C:  Sources of Vitamin C include Black Currants,Breadfruit, Grapefruit, Guava, Kiwi, Lychee, Mango, Mulberries, Orange 
Papaya, Passion fruit, Pineapple, Strawberries, Amaranth Leaves, Bok Choy, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Butternut Squash, Green Pepper, Kale &amp;  Swiss Chard.  Just skip any of these options that you don't tolerate well. Take care.

Healing takes time: perhaps it hasn't fully healed yet. Avoid acidic and sour foods for a week, if you can.

hello, my 11 month old has a slight rash around her mouth after eating a tomato and i was wondering if i can give her some childrens benadryl and if so how much?

Yes: The dose is a teaspoon of the 12.5 mg/5 ml syrup per 25 lb. given as often as every 4-6 hrs.

was taking nexium for 5 weeks for silent gerd. since stopping, i've had very bad stomach pain immediately after eating citric foods like cooked tomatoes. feels like s burning type feeling right away then stops. never had this before nexium. cause?

Acidity: It is likely that you experienced acid rebound after discontinuing the nexium which had shut off your stomachs acid production. You could temporarily try taking zantac or pepcid which shuts off acid more quickly than nexium and then taper off the medication. Avoid caffeine, spicy and greasy foods as well.
