Floaters and pvd: Floaters are "things" in the vitreous cavity that you can see floating in your vision.  The "things" can be blood, inflammatory cells, parasites, or most commonly, clumps of the normal vitreous material.  A posterior vitreous detachment is when the back of the vitreous becomes separated from the retina.  A PVD is usually accompanied by floaters.

Floaters: Keep your head elevated. Don't read. Don't take Aspirin or Aspirin products. Don't do a lot of vigorous exercise.

Vitreous floaters: Are very common.  They are due to degenerative changes in the vitreous gel which fills the back of the eye.  In the large majority of cases, floaters develop without any other associated eye problems.  You have already had your eyes checked to rule out any retinal tears, holes or detachment.  Floaters are permanent but do not cause any predisposition to future eye problems.

Yes, but don't: There used to be some momentum for this but it has, fortunately, fallen out of favor.  There are real risks to this practice considering that standard floaters are a totally benign condition.  In the most severe cases a vitrectomy can be done but this is rarely rarely rarely necessary.

The answer is yes: Warm compresses help evaporative dry eye caused by clogging of the oil glands along the eyelid margins. These glands produce oil that coats the eye and prevent tears from evaporating. Compresses keep these oil glands open.

Omega 3 fish oil supplements can also help keep the oil glands producing healthy fatty acids.

Both: Floaters are cellular debris intertwined with the gel filling the space in the back of the eye (the vitreous).  A few can enter the visual space and be seen and are usually benign.  As you and your vitreous age, the vitreous can peel off the retina carrying with it some debris and causing light flashes.  Since this overlaps with retinal detachment in symptoms, see your ophthalmologist quickly.
