i have a flaky mole on my back that was checked my a dermatologist last year.  the dr said it was fine but i am questioning it. should i be concerned?

Get mole checked: Flaky skin lesions are usually harmless seborrhoeic keratoses. But sometimes they are a skin cancer. So if the lesion is changing or concerning you, return to your doctor to get it checked again. Ask for a full skin examination if you have many moles or fair skin.

i have a dry flaky mole i just noticed on my skin. i haven't noticed it this way before, is this something to go see a doctor's about?

Recommended: In my opinion, any skin lesion that stands out from other spots on the skin or changes noticeably should be checked by a physician or dermatologist, even for peace of mind.

Dermatologist: I feel that any skin lesion that looks different from any other skin findings on your body is best checked by your physician or dermatologist for peace of mind especially if the lesion shows any change.

Irritation: If your mole has been present for many years and has recently changed with surface dryness, it may be irritated by clothing or rubbing from other surfaces.  If there is a change in the size, shape, or color of the mole, have it checked by a physician as soon as possible.

See dermatologist: Irregular border and itching are 2 reasons to have a mole examined by a dermatologist. Any change in the appearance of a mole and/ or the onset of itching, pain, bleeding warrants a visit to the dermatologist. These warning signs for melanoma; diagnosis is made with biopsy.

i have a flat mole on my arm that seemed to have bled recently. it has a scab and it seems dry and flaky now. is it possible that the skin is just incredibly dry, or should i be worried?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you and your symptoms warrant evaluation by a physician. If it is a mole, it would be prudent to have it removed and the tissue examined by a pathologist.

Unlikely at your age: Is this an area where there is a lot of sunlight?  Does it have irregular margins and variegated color.? Are you picking at it so it bleeds?  At your age a melanoma is a rare possibility but an irritated mole is much more likely.  If you have any doubt- see a dermatologist for analysis.  And consider that since you are fair skinned, that sun screen or less time in the sun would be wise.

family history of brca2. should i worry about a 5-6 mm raised mole on my breast that is flaky and itchy. it is tan with some black specks in it.

Mole: Any itchy mole with a changing surface (scale for example) should be evaluated and treated if needed by a dermatologist.

Likely not.: It is unlikely that any significant change occurred in your skin lesion within one month since the last examination by a dermatologist; nevertheless, anything is possible. It is always wise to have all pigmented lesions evaluated regularly by a dermatologist; if there are changes, a visit or phone call also gives you the opportunity to discuss your concerns with the dermatologist who knows you.
