i was prescribed purbac ds and flagyl for an infection on 21.12.17 but developed an allergic rxn to the tx. i have only taken 1tablet but symptoms persist, red blotches over my legs as well as on my abdomen. what should i do. took texa allergy. ?

Call your doctor!: You need to call your doctor who can treat your allergy symptoms and treat your infection.  Please do it ASAP (as  soon as possible).  If you have lip or throat swelling, shortness of breath or anything else scary, please go to the ER right away.

will flagyl help dental infection by itself? history of c diff, allergies make me not want to take other antibios; flagyl is one i tolerate well.

Flagyl: Flagyl (metronidazole) is an antibiotic that fights bacteria. Flagyl is used to treat bacterial infections of the vagina, stomach, liver, skin, joints, brain, and respiratory tract. Flagyl is not used for dental infections. Do not self medicate, please see your dentist for proper care.

is it bad to take otc allergy medication to help fall asleep once in a while?

Try Melatonin: If you use Benedryl or some other OTC allergy medication to fall asleep once in awhile it won't hurt you.  However, its not a perfect solution.  These medications change your sleep architecture.  You don't get the right balance of each stage of sleep to feel rested.  You may feel hung-over in the morning.  A better solution would be Melatonin.  You can buy it a healthfood store.  Sulingual is best

Not a common cause: Other than steroids, I am not aware of any common allergy drugs that are associated with the development of gynecomastia.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or claritin: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) works well but can be sedating, or paradoxically might cause hyperactivity.  Claritin is a nice alternative, working for 24 hours and usually not sedating.

Allegra or Claritin (loratadine) : Allergy medicines are usully antihistamines
first generation antihistamines like benadryl, (diphenhydramine) often make people sleepy.  Second generation drugs like Allegra and Claritin much less  commonly cause drowsiness.

Yes: Should be ok at normal doses of hydrocodone (5-15 mg per dose, 3-4 times a day).  At VERY high doses (more than 120 mg per day), there is a slight risk of heart arrhythmia along with things like ephedrine (ephedrine sulfate) or psuedoephedrine (ephedrine sulfate) due to an additive effect.

what's a good alternative for bromfed (brompheniramine) allergy medication?

Depends: There are different types of bromfed..With or without decongestant..Either way other anithistamines won't make you as drowsy.Try Allegra (fexofenadine)  zyrtec or claritin(with or without sudafed)..There are generics for all of these and they are now over the counter..Just read the labels for any precautions for yourself.

my allergy medication is no longer working. how long should i wait after stopping daily 10mg loratadine doses before switching to daily 180mg fexofenadine doses? i've read that don't want to mix anti-histimines, so is a wait period necessary?

Accepted Answer

: You can stop loratadine today and start fexofenadine tomorrow. You should not use them in combination, such as using loratadine along with certirizine or fexofenadine or benadryl or hydroxyzine at the same time.
