Emotional stress and cold temperatures are triggers. It is important to figure out the cause, so seeing a specialist is a good idea.

Poor circulation: Cold fingers may be a sign of diminished blood flow into the finger. If bad enough ulcers may develop, finger will be painful, and healing compromised.

Certainly might: Rapid weight loss (such as crash dieting) will cause loss of structural fat, such as that in the finger pads and the bottoms of our feet. 
That may account for some of what you are describing.
Hydration and general circulation may also be contributors to what you are observing.
