See details: I certainly be related to low grade inflammation. This inflammation may result from repetitive trauma such as punching a heavy bag. Have it evaluated.

Additional history, medications taken, family history are all important.

Your mother would be best served but seeing her MD for further exam, evaluation and testing.

Several possibilitie: Common things we see in this area are arthritis, or possibly a ligament injury.  If there was trauma involved, you could have a fracture.  It could also be related to the tendon that straightens the finger.  See a hand surgeon who can examine you and might take some x-rays.   Good luck!

It is a sprain: Finger traumatic sprain is common. Symptoms can be the result of an acute injury. The home remedies are: ice application, NSAIDs OTC every 6 hours and gentle movement of the finger. Resume your normal activities after 24-48 hours.

Pinky pain: An xray would reliable tell if something is fractured.  Small swollen bruised finger is a good indication that something may be fractured.

Not needed!: I assume that you mean some type of joint supplement that contains glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate.  Studies have not really shown that they help or prevent arthritis.  At your age i don't think you need this type of product.

Generally no conn--: Ection between the 3rd finger and drinking, unless under the influence you jammed it or fell on it, or injured it somehow.
See your pcp and have a xray taken to rule out a fracture. Other possibilities would be a contusion with discoloration... Blueish/greenish as well of the finger, or some ligament/tendon injury to the finger.
