Liver ultrasound: Fibroscan is a special type of liver ultrasound that can measure the stiffness of the liver, and is used to decide how much advanced hepatitis or cirrhosis may have damaged the liver in chronic disease. It is only helpful with chronic or advanced stages of liver disease, and does not reliably predict mild or moderate liver diseases, which can be assessed better by liver biopsy

Meds, et al: Fibromyalgia prescription drugs include gabapentin, lyrica, cymbalta, savella, (milnacipran) and perhaps some sleeping pills and analgesics.  But relaxation exercises, biofeedback, aerobic exercise, and improvement in sleep patterns, ail help substantially.  Visit a physiatrist or rheumatologist who has experience in the area.

It is not uncommon f: Yes it is possible. It is not uncommon for someone living with fibromyalgia to experience periods of flare ups and periods of relatively mild symtpoms.  The intervals between flare ups can vary from patient to patient with different potential triggers such as stress, infection, physical trauma, surgery, lifestyle changes and insomnia to name just a few.

what is the best course of action to treat severe "fibro fog"?

Accepted Answer

Many approaches!: A burst of Adrenalin helps activate anyone. A five minute burst of intense activity can help. Caffeine in coffee, theophylline in tea, and guarani in herbal preps can help. If these do not work: two more options! buproprion-xl or the use of Provigil /nuvigil can help .  Avoid amphetamines and Ritalin (methylphenidate) like drugs. These will not help arthritis sx, or inprobe sleep.

Widespread pain: Fibromyalgia is a clinical syndrome of persistent waxing/waning widespread pain, stiffness, fatigue, nonrestful sleep, and some cases with cognitive difficulty.
Often having symptoms of anxiety/derepssion and some impairment of daily activities due to pain and fatigue etc...
It typically presents in young or middle aged women, but this is seen in men too...

FM: For most people fibrofog is multifactorial but a large component usually stems from sleep deprivation. See a sleep specialist or a fm specialist to help you improve the quality of your sleep.
