Yes: If there is sever itching then you may need to take both but i would space them out so fexofenadine would be used in the am and Loratadine at night.  Even better - substitute ceterizine instead of loratadine.

Allergy meds : Hello, I am asked this question quite often. Which otc allergy medication is best? My answer is for each person to try a medication and see which works best for them. Personally i feel that fexofenadine is more effective than loratadine. That is my opinion in how each works for me.

Not recommended: Unless your physician or allergist specifically told you to take two allergy medicines together, this is generally not recommended.  Allergy shots, or immunotherapy, may be of value to you since your symptoms are so difficult to control.

i heard that claritin (loratadine) needs several days of consecutive use to be effective. are other allergy pills like allegra (fexofenadine) similar?

This is a myth: Antihistamines vary in their onset of action (how quickly they relieve symptoms). Allegra, Zyrtec and Benadryl start helping in 2 hours, Claritin in 4 hours. Claritin is generally the least effective, hence the rumor that it takes days to help.

: You can stop loratadine today and start fexofenadine tomorrow. You should not use them in combination, such as using loratadine along with certirizine or fexofenadine or benadryl or hydroxyzine at the same time.

Technically ...: Technically Zyrtec is the strongest of the OTC non-sedating antihistamines - if you look at binding receptor profiles (followed by Allegra (fexofenadine) then Claritin).  However, the clinical applicability of these types of basic science applications (while interesting) often doesn't always correlate with how patients actually respond to drugs in "real life".  Go with what works for you - Hope that helps!

Yes but: You can use them together but they're practically identical so i don't know that you'll get much mileage out of the combination. You'd do better to use a second, different medicine with the antihistamine like a topical steroid cream. Or for really awful cases, an oral (or im) steroid. (you'd need to see your doc for that). If the itch is due to fungal infection, it must be addressed.
