i had spinal fusion surgery on feb. 18 2013 my right leg below the knee is nume and tingles a lot, today it felt worse. is this normal?

Spine surgery: You had a spinal fusion since feb 18, 2013. It has been more than 7 months. How many levels of surgery and what type of fusion? Increased numbness in the lower extremity and progressive neurological symptoms several months after surgery is not normal. You need to discuss this issue with your surgeon to prompt further evaluation. Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack, gabapentin, physical therapies are also recommended.

Not @all. See your-: -surgeon. If there were pedical screws used, there could be extrusion of the threads into the foramina. This is not something you should wait on but contact him/her now.

hi, i had spinal fusion surgery in march 2013. i am know having pain again in my lower back and down my legs. my doctor says i have fbss. is this true?

Surgery not a fix: Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS) is a convenient term. Unfortunately, return of pain or new pain after spine surgery is common. As an anesthesiologist, I do not feel that spine surgery is a fix yet. Knee or hip replacement is a fix. Cataracts surgery is a fix. Heart bypass is a fix. Organ transplant is a fix. Spine surgery is only an intricate adjustment but not a fix. So sorry.

when i was younger i needed drainage for my lymph nodes on my left groin area. i was around 2 years old. when i had my son at age 28 i had a blood clot in my left leg.  this year i have back surgery (spinal fusion) and my right leg is constantly swollen.

Be seen: I would not hesitate to be seen.  It can be related to your previous surgical site, or sometimes it is another level in the spine, or it could potentially not even be spine related.  A thorough exam and appropriate studies would likely determine the cause.

Neurosurgeon: I recommend consulting a neurosurgeon or the specialist who performed your procedure to evaluate and advise you. An MRI will most likely be recommended as part of the evaluation. Don't delay if actual leg muscle weakness is setting in. Pain and numbness is one thing, but leg weakness is very worrisome and could become permanent.

See your surgeon: You should see your surgeon as the numbness may indicate further nerve compression and you need to have your fusion looked at with an X-ray at least.

Talk to your DR.: Any time a patient is considering weaning off a medication, it is the best course of action to talk to the prescribing Dr to determine the safe way to do this. They can also offer alternative treatment suggestions or prescriptions.

How much, how tall?: Usually we have an upper limit of 350 lbs for spinal fusion.  It's smart to not exceed 250 lbs to have this surgery done.
