Doctor Visit: Need to know more.  Have you had this previous?  Have  you been previously diagnosed with Migraine? Are you taking any Migraine meds?

Irritation/scarring: Discomfort in the esophagus could be due to some irritation or scarring. These are typically found in person who have frequent acid reflux. Talk to your Dr at your next visit so that they can examine you and determine if there are further tests required

Swallowing Air?: Insufficient info, but sounds like you may be swallowing air when eating and drinking. If stomach is full of air when breathing it will cause discomfort (diaphram must go down to breath in and puts pressure on dilated stomach until you burp. Simplest answer!  Other factors may be present, seek MD attn. Until then make sure you are not breathing in as you swallow.

Esophageal ulcer: Certain pills can cause ulcers in the esophagus if they get stuck.  Drink plenty of water with pills.  It might help to take antacids or an over-the-counter GERD medicine like omeprazole or famotidine.  It should heal in a week or so.  If you can’t eat or are vomiting you need to go to your doctor or the ER.

Reflux/heartburn: Probably gastroesophageal reflux also known as heartburn. Try antacids.

Constant burping.: Your constant burping could be a sign that you have acid reflux which is not under adequate control.  I would consider adopting anti-reflux precautions, particularly avoiding caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol and avoiding any exacerbating foods. I would add Tums to  your medicine regimen as needed. If the problem persists, then you may want to see your doctor for a trial of medications. Good luck.

Sounds like "GAS,": Since it is an acute issue and it is located where it is, it sounds like you've built up gas in your stomach. There are many otcs that will help break up gas. No harm in burping. Gaviscon is one-there are generics! gas-x another!

what could cause an airy feeling in the chest when breathing? accompanied by lots of burping, has been happening all night.

Bloating?: If you are burping a lot, you have likely swallowed too much air which may be from anxiety or even acid reflux (one subconsciously swallows saliva to neutralize the acid). I am not clear on what is meant by airy feeling but suspect that this may be from bloating.
