i have hsv 2 and had for about two months and trying to figure out how i got it . before i had sex that day i had shaved and left myself cuts from the razor . could he have passed to me that way ? if he was having an outbreak already ?

Accepted Answer

: The only way to catch HSV2 is to have sex with an infected person. Having shaved, perhaps you developed a more severe case than otherwise, but shaving wasn't the cause of the herpes. Also make sure the diagnosis is correct:  skin infection following shaving (folliculitis) sometimes is misdiagnosed as herpes.

ive had three hsv igg clia blood tests done (4, 6, & 7 months post exposure). hsv 2 is negative but hsv 1 is inconclusive. what do three equivocal hsv 1 (.90) results mean? should i consider this negative or positive? two years ago, it was negative?

: Even if you have HSV 1, also called oral herpes, it is not a serious matter. Majority of the adult have had HSV 1. Other than cold sores, HSV 1 infection is inconsequential, except in rare instances of immune deficiency.

had 2 cbc 3 mths apart, wbc were 5.10 and 6.30 nuphril was 2.64 and 3.95lymph were 1.84 and 1.75 , are these results normal? had two hsv 2 outbreaks

All is normal: Your WBC, neurtrophil, and lymphocyte counts are normal. They naturally vary and there is no evidence of any health problem. These results have nothing to do with your HSV2 infection.

HSV: pimples are more likely folliculitis from shaving.  HSV2 lesions present more like blisters.

Many causes: There are many reasons or causes of oral, genital, or other skin type lesions.  Herpes is only one viral infection.  See your medical doctor or a dermatologist to be diagnosed and treated properly.

No: Hsv2 does not cause your WBC to be low.  If you have an abnormally low white blood cell count, then you need to request a consult with a hematologist!

Probably not: Hearing defect in infant is more often associated with CMV (cytomegalovirus) infection or craniofacial deformity.

VALTREX (valacyclovir) FOR HSV: Valacyclovir -- the brand name is Valtrex (valacyclovir) -- is quite effective in peventing herpes simplex recurrences. Not 100%, though.

Not necessarily: Culture of hsv may be negative if the infected person is not sheeding the virus,  the positive  antibody suggests a past or recent exposure to the virus even when the virus is not detected by culture.

is it possible for a hsv 2 lesion to pop before even noticing the blister?

Accepted Answer

Sure: People may not notice a lesion until it has "popped", but then it will look like a lesion with a tiny bit of surface skin missing in the central area where it "popped". Herpes usually is a cluster of tiny lesions that together look like a larger lesion.
