: Take the test every morning before breakfast. This will give you an average result over time. Eating a late dinner, reading will be higher than eating an early dinner. In a prior question you asked why you had frequent nocturnal urination, yet stated you were not diabetic. High sugar levels and a1c may be the reason for your need to urinate throughout the night.

hi! when i go for a fasting blood test to check glucose and cholesterol, if i use toothpaste and/or mouthwash before the fasting blood test, could the chemicals in the toothpaste and/or mouthwash affect the test results? should i wait till after test?

Not a problem: As long as your toothpaste and mouthwash do not contain sugar, or carbohydrates, there should be no problem whatsoever.
Remember, not to eat after midnight if next day involves fasting blood testing.

Diet, exercise: And weight reduction. Avoid red meat and dairy products. If numbers don't improve, strongly consider medication - statin for lipids and even metformin for glucose if it continues to increase over time. Check an a1c and talk w/your doctor. Consider ace inhibitor or arg for renoprophylaxis.

General rule: We generally want you to not consume anything past midnight of the evening prior to the test. Mouthwash you spit out &amp; brushing teeth does not effect the tests. I like the patient to get the test in the morning prior to a visit or just the test after which they go for brunch.
