Ask your doctor: There are a few clear medical reasons why a woman has to wait before another try; there are also many personal ones. I have often let patients start again immediately if the conditions were met. See what your ivf doctor thinks.

Soon: Usually within 3-5 days of stopping medications. Sometimes it can take a little longer. Periods is usually a little heavier than normal as well.

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: Its more likely that your hormonal levels are altered from the cycle and may cause this.

On the other hand, other possibilities include:

1. Undetected polyps
2. Rebound ovulation (earlier then usual)
3. Cervical trauma from the embryo transfer.

i am just experiencing my 6th failed ivf cycle with donor eggs.  two re's can't figure out the problem.  is there anything you recommend investigating?

You could get 1 more: Opinion. Otherwise, as the eggs are donor eggs it's possible your body won't accept the embryo. You have two competent reproductive endocrinologists and presumably a maternal fetal medicine specialist, so if the procedure doesn't work, you can keep trying, see what another doc thinks or start looking to adopt a baby. Sometimes the mind is willing but the flesh won't yield. Consider other options.

Couple preference: Should? Only if that's what the couple prefers. Most times it's personal rather than medical factors that make a couple delay, although medical considerations can sometimes make the decision. At age 38 6 months is not trivial, but likely not critical either.

Usually on time: Generally the cycle will come 2-5 days after the Progesterone has been discontinued   sometimes though the process may not happen as planned. At a minimum i would check another pregnancy test if the cycle doesn't start on time. Otherwise check with your provider for instructions. Good luck it's a tough process.

had failed ivf cycle today, as dr. says only 02 eggs were retrieved from 9 follicles grown & those two failed to fertilize with icsi. is it possible?

Yes: Normal women have a cycle every month but only a few pregnancies in her life.  The careful success of a pregnancy requires a host of issues to successfully line up.  probably 60% of impregantions are still not successful and even in the face of many sperm many eggs are never impregnanted.   Much is still a mystery.

i have been spotting for 2 months in between periods after a failed ivf cycle. i have a small cyst. could it be the cause of the bleeding.

Doubtful: The spotting is most likely due to hormonal variations. Your GYN should be monitoring your female hormone levels, thyroid function and prolactin levels. Small cysts rarely cause bleeding.

Listen to doc: Do what your fertility doctor thinks is best for your situation.  Most women do take a month or two off to recuperate their bodies.

Depends on situation: During IVF cycles lot of medication is used. Contact your treating IVF doc and see if any of the medication may be contributing to your irregular bleeding.
