There are none.: There are no supplements or vitamins that have demonstrated to improve vision defects, such as the need for glasses.

There are supplements which can reduce your risk of developing macular degeneration.  Anti-oxidant vitamins, lutein, zinc, fish oil and vitamin d are recommended for this.

Lutein: Eating a diet high in green leafy vegetables will provide the retinal photoreceptors with essential nutrietns needed for optimal functionung.  Taking a multivitamin with lutein is a good idea.  Don't forget to wear uv protection sunglasses when outside.

O3: There are many supplements which have been touted to help increase tear production, glandular function and reduce dry eye symptoms overall. A recent study published in the journal ophthalmology demonstrated omega-3 (fish oil) supplementation has been shown to consistently help with symptoms. Other supplements may work as well, but definitive studies are pending.

No: For age related macular degeneration, a specific vitamin/mineral/ antioxidant  formula has been developed to slow the progression of this specific disease. Nothing to date has ever shown reversal of the aging changes of the eye. This also applies to other age changes such as cataract, elastosis, degenerative eyelid changes, etc. Best advice: eat plenty of vegetables/fruits, don't smoke, UV PROTECT

Maybe: We need to separate prevention from treatment.  Supplements such as areds vitamins for macular degeneration have proven to be useful.  For prevention, the observed effects are smaller so it is much more difficult to see benefit.  A multivitamin can be helpful with extra antioxidants.  We just don't want to cause harm.  Check with your eye doctor and better still, just live "healthy.".

Many: There are many vitamin supplements for eye health. Most contain a wide variety of vitamins, including anti-oxidant vitamins like lutein. There is no dependable information that one brand is significantly better than another. Commonly used vitamins include centrum silver, ocuvite, and numerous others. These are probably most useful if you have early macular degeneration, or if it runs in the family.

omega-3 fatty acids (from fish oil):

mixed tocopherol concentrate 20 mg + (including gamma tocopherol).

AREDS: Areds pills (made by icaps ; preservision) are a specific cocktail of vitamins proven to slow down or stop certain retinal disease deterioration. It will not reverse poor vision though and can not be used by patients who are currently smokers.

Accepted Answer

Good for the retina: Lutein and carotenoids such as zeaxanthin are found in leafy green vegetables such as kale, collard greens, turnip greens, etc. And are often found in multivitamin supplements, especially those for age over 50. Lutein has been found to be good for the retina,  especially in cases of intermediate to advanced age related macular degeneration (along with zinc, vit c, vit e). It does not help myopia.

Accepted Answer

Focus on Omega 3: Omega 3 supplements will likely suit you best.  Check on the components (epa and dha to compare options).  Although both of these types of essential fatty acids are needed, your &quot;normal&quot; diet is more likely to be supplying you with your sources of omega 6.  The omega 3 can be added by diet (certain fish like salmon), by precursors (certain nuts and seeds like walnuts) or by supplements. Good luck!
