You shouldn't.: The old Amoxicillin will not hurt you, but is probably too old to be as effective as it should be.

Yes and no: All drugs must have an expiry date on them.  That means the maker knows the drug will deliver the dose stated on the package.  After that date the dose may or may not be as stated.  I said yes and no because if it just 3 or 4 months outdated it should be ok but longer than that you should not use it.  That drug may be used for critical infection whereas an outdated tylenol (acetaminophen) is not a critical drug.

: Expiration dates are always very conservative and penicillins in general are very stable, and there is nothing harmful in the expired bottle. If your toddler is doing well there is no need to treat them again just because of the expiration date.

Hurt = no: Once water is added. the liquid forms of antibiotics retain potency for 10-14 days in the fridge. After that point they deteriorate to basic proteins &amp; debris. It would have no real potency after a year but the effect on you would be no worse than a bit of sour milk.

Your : Your reaction is less likely due to the fact that the medication was expired than to an underlying allergy the medication or to something else you were exposed to.  Have you taken Amoxicillin in the past without problems?  Have you taken any other medications in the past 24 hours? Any new shampoos or soaps (including laundry soap)?

Benadryl is a pretty good medication for controlling allergy symptoms. The fact that the symptoms returned later suggests that you may have been exposed again.

Danger - no: It's not dangerous in that it is going to hurt you in any way. However, two questions to think about: why did you have some left over - you should finish what you are prescribed every time to avoid bacterial resistance. Number two: why are you taking expired antibiotics? If you have a new illness that you think needs medicine, you should gt an appropriate dose for an appropriate period of time.
