Butterflies,: Push-ups, military presses, presses,pull-ups, all work the upper body. There are many more, discuss with a trainer so you can be coached in proper technique. Read trusty weight training books (no emphasis on supplements) and find out multiple ways to strengthen and tone all muscle groups.

for 4 months now i have had pain in left my upper chest and going along the side of pec muscle every day, typically in the evening. usually it helps to add pressure to the area and it feels inflamed when it is in pain. gets inflamed daily and hurts?

: If localized heat, rest and NSAIDs have been discussed with your PCP and are not providing relief, a chest image may be indicated. 
If you have any shortness of breath or dizziness, please see the Emergency room. Muscle skeletal chest wall pain is a common cause of chest pain. If you have had COVID 19, please see your PCP for an evaluation.

Yes: Yes a muscular strain of the chest wall can cause difficulty with taking deep breaths. As muscles need to contract and relax during breathing,  strained chest wall muscles would cause pain on inspiration. However if you are finding that you are short of breath or gasping for air then there is always a concern of pneumothorax or collapsed lung. In this case you need to go to ER to get a Chest X Ray

Maybe: Several possibilities: pleurisy, lung injury, punctured intestine, heart, etc.  

A very common cause for pain in this location , however, though not serious, is extremely painful: a dysfunctional rib. Pain is often front & back. Md's almost never make this diagnosis, but osteopathic docs who do hands-on diagnosis & treatment, in addition to doing all the other work-up, often find & treat this.

Targeted Exercise: Upper chest is pectoralis muscles, typically fly type exercises or composite exercises such as push ups or bench press. If you're new to exercise i would at least get started with the help of a competent trainer. Good luck.

Sounds like a muscle: But could indeed be something else.  Best to do a good self exam to reassure yourself that there is no focal source of pain/.  If indeed this is coming from your shoulder down into your breast bone area it may be that you strained your pectoralis muscle

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!
