Belly fat: I would go back to the surgeon(s) who looked after you and listen to their advice. Surgery may be a good idea but might be expensive and not well covered by insurance.

A significant change: I am sorry you have to go through this tough surgery. But sometimes that is the only way to treat several serious conditions. Is there any consideration for reconnect the bowel with your rectum, or maybe have an ostomy created?

Both: Weight loss of 5 to  15 pounds is common during the week of and after the colon resection but then by 6 weeks most people should start to gain the weight back. If you are hoping to lose weight, this is not my recommended program but it can kick start one.

Variable: But assuming you had an abdominal incision of some kind, i usually tell my patients 6 full weeks before sexual activity and strenuous exercising. I usually treat for 2 weeks post op with a low fiber diet and then at first post op visit if all is well, advance to an unrestricted diet. I am assuming you have no ostomy. Please discuss with your surgeon as they should have the final say so for all of.

Need for workup.: It sounds like you had this pain prior to your colectomy so its unlikely due to the surgery. It is very hard to say what is the cause of your pain without more information. You will likely need further medical workup.

Recently?: No bowel movements or any pain and bloating are a good reason to give your primary doctor or surgeon a call.

Possible: It's possible while manipulating the colon that an instrument could have "knicked" the duodenum - the first part of the small intestine.  It wouldn't be the most common complication of a colectomy though.

Multiple ways: Intravenous patient controlled anesthesia is most common with narcotics. This can be supplemented with Iv Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Toradol with good results until oral meds can be initiated

Colonoscopy refers as such to examination of the colon with a colonoscope.
