Multifacted: Excess bleeding could be a hormonal imbalance or it could be a fibroid or polyp in the uterus or cervix.  A visit with your ob/gyn will help possibly narrow your diagnosis.  Sometimes excess bleeding can even be precancerous cells in the uterus.  I would recommend you see a physician and be evaluated.

Normal per age: Depending upon your age, this can be normal.  On the other hand, changing bcps, or changing dosing of hormones such as estrogens, can cause these symptoms.  A few days of the symptoms with resolution, no worries; longer, see your ObGyn.

If pregnancy is possible, obtain a serum HCG to be certain about pregnancy, and if positive, see your gyn physician immediately.  If negative ,schedule an exam with your gyn for additional testing.

sunday i started my menstrual cycle. it was and still is really heavy.  i would fill the pad almost instantly. i'd say i fill up one pad in an hour and a half. quite a bit of clotting and once i've used the bathroom bleeding remains heavy.

Heavy bleeding: If changing pads &gt; 1 every 2 hours would go to ER for evaluation as can lose a lot of blood.. May be a miscarriage as you dont mention when you previous period was. This can happen with fibroids and in poly cystic ovarian syndrome where periods are irregular as well.

Period heavy: clots: Near the end of life's fourth decade, ovaries require more stimulation to produce an egg, which also creates higher estrogen levels, which make the lining of the uterus much thicker. This leads to more bleeding when estrogen falls prior to the period, with clots which create more pain when passed.  Ask your gyn provider about low does oral bcp's, which stop estrogen production by the ovary.
