Talk w/your doctor: Talk with your own doctor about this -- but you may have some food intolerances or even some bacterial overgrowth in your gut creating excess gas in their activities.  These bacteria (many of which are friendly to us) need to be in balance.  Overnight they can be digesting up a gassy storm.  You may benefit from a good probiotic taken daily for awhile to help your gut's "good" bacteria win.

Causes of excessive: upper intestinal gas include swallowing more than a usual amount of air, overeating, smoking, chewing gum. Excess lower GI gas can be caused by lactose OR fructose intolerance, eating gas causing foods (beans, lentils, cruciferous veggies--cabbage, broccoli, etc), carbonated beverages. Diseases can cause: celiac, Crohn's, GERD, inflammatory bowel disease. Full GI work-up should clarify. Good luck

GI evaluation: Maybe from diet or early food intolerance ( fatty foods) ; however, these are also common symtoms of gallblkadder diease- you need a full GI medical workup.

Gas: I would ask what type of foods are you eating? How much fiber are you taking everyday in your diet? 
    Also, make sure you are digesting your food well. Chew your food at least 20 - 30 times before swallowing. Take your time when you are eating. Slow down and enjoy your food!

Colon: The bacteria in the colon process sugars and starches and make gas. Excess gas in the gas of bacterial overgrowth with bloating and pain might be a problem.  A hydrogen breath test can diagnose this and lactose intolerant.  If you are without diarrhea or bloating or pain, it should not be alarming.

Need more info: There are many causes of excessive flatus, the most common chronic causes simply being drinking carbonated drinks followed by lactose intolerance, ingestion of beans or sulfa containing foods, etc.    There are many other causes, most of which are benign and can be corrected through dietary modifications; a few causes are serious, and if you are worried, see your doctor.

Gas: If you are continually passing gas rectally and have no difficulty passing it, I would consider that as having excessive gas. If you have frequent abdominal bloating and are unable to pass the gas rectally, you may not be forming excessive gas, but have a problem with gas entrapment in which case drinking hot water helps break it down. Taking simethicone after meals prevents gas buildup.

Diet change: Often times, excess gas is related to a change in diet such as eating more undigestible foods, excess carbonated beverages, sugar free gum. You should look for any dietary change and see if restricting that food improves your gas.
