Don't know: Hives and swelling are common.  With fever - can happen.  Has this been happening for awhile?  Does it itch?  Do antihistamines (like benadryl) help?  Test results?  His case sounds unusual, but don't have enough details.  Time to see a board certified allergist.

Damn hives: Chronic hives, longer than 6 weeks duration, are usually idiopathic. Chemicals on the skin, cosmetics,  usually are not the cause of hives. If oral antihistamines don't control see a board certified allergist for evaluation and treatment.

Hives do not turn into acne.  Acne can be caused by stress, diet, genetics, hormones, oral medications, and topical preparations.
