Anti-inflamm. Diet: Ankylosing spondylitis is a systemic, inflammatory condition that can lead to chronic back pain.  Because it is systemic, topical treatments are unlikely to have much affect long term.  There is some thought that an antiinflammatory diet can reduce inflammation levels in the body and can potentially have a dramatic affect.

It depends.: There many different causes of atraumatic finger swelling.  The amount of swelling and duration would help narrow the possibilities.  If swelling is significant and doesn't resolve in a reasonable period of time then it becomes very important to seek further medical evaluation.  An examination followed by appropriate diagnostic studies (xray, mri, blood work) would be important.

Low Vit D: A level of 4 ng is very low. Would go for supplementation  consider and discuss with MD  1000-2000 mg Vit D  a day.  See if your symptoms  resolve. For the joint swelling would follow up this week with doctor /urgent care  to assess if it is autoimmune or other pathology.

Arthritis, etc: Different forms of arthritis, pseudogout, capsulitis, fracture to a joint, metatarsalgia, synovitis, cysts, to name a few.  If you are not sure and are having pain, make sure to see your podiatrist before the condition becomes chronic or worse.

Acute arthritis?: You are probably too young to consider heart or kidney failure that can cause swelling; pregnancy can also be a factor in swelling.. otherwise, inflammation of the joints (arthritis) remains a possibility. Check with your primary care physician.

You need to have: a number of blood studies to determine the reason for your arthralgias (unless the symptoms are only DAYS old (some VIRAL ILLNESSES begin this way)
