No it doesn't: It is an antihistaminic, first generation, has got more of anticholinergic effects as well and can cause sedation. If you're in doubt, haven't taken this medicine before, don't take it, use an alternative that you know, if no improvement see your doctor

Probably Viral: Positive or even weakly pos strep tests are common with associated Mono infection which is viral and doesn't get better with antibiotics like the one you are taking, which should still treat  any secondary bacterial infection you may have developed with accompanying bronchitis.. It takes a bit longer for sore throat symptom to go away. If OTC don't help, u may benefit from prescription pain relief

Probably Viral infec: Sore throat is frequently caused by a virus(viral upper respiratory infection). You can take Aspirin or tylenol (acetaminophen) for relief of symptoms but it has to be repeated every 6 to every 8 hours in order to control the fever. Fever should settle down in 3-5 days. If the fever persists you should see your family doctor as you may require antibiotics if you have strept throat infection.

Not necessarily : I would treat symptoms if improves the patient feeling better.Sometimes if you suppress a cough you may not clear secretions as much but if does significantly make you feel better and causes no other harm such as increasing blood pressure then I would treat it.It will likely not increase the duration of the illness that significantly.

Usually, a person sees the doctor (call first) if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. COVID-19 infections tend to have cough, whereas strep usually lacks cough but has more throat pain.
