i had a uretal stent fitted 2 yrs ago...its going to be removed nxt week...any complications likely and any after effects of the stent removal?

Stent: A ureteral stent should be removed or exchanged every three to six months. There could be encrustation or breakage of the stent if it has been in for two years.

hi, i had a stent put in on thursday and i have a flight booked for next wednesday (6days after the procedure). is it ok for me to fly? it's a short flight of about 2 hours. 
ps. there were no complications with the procedure.

After stenting: I assume you're feeling very well and you state that the angioplasty and stent placement went very well.. If there was no associated myocardial infarction or heart muscle damage just prior to or just after the stent placement, most cardiologists permit flying after a week.

Burn with urination: The stent usually causes some urinary frequency and urgency. Once the stent is removed, these symptoms quickly resolve.

: Both drug-eluting and non-drug-eluting stents can last for years, even decades without need for revision.  The stent maintains blood flow and thereby decreases risk of heart attack.

Multiple: When deciding a treatment plan one aways must weigh the risks of (rate of occurance) and the impact of an complication vs the potential benefits of the treatment. Surgical complications are many. A partial list includes: anastomotic leak, vocal cord nerve injury, pneumonia, lymphatic leak, blood clots (DVT) and even death to name a few. But is surgery is possible it provide the best chance of cure.

hx of esophageal dysphagia, no official dx yet only that the primary peristalsis of my thoracic esophagus is impaired. if left untreated can it get better, worse or cause further complications? gi just said it could be motility or from gerd?

: Until you have an actual diagnosis of what is causing the dysphasia, it is impossible to know whether it will get worse or better. If you were having food sticking in your esophagus, I would not ignore it. Follow through with the treatment and or diagnostic procedures that the gastroenterologist recommends. Don’t ignore it. Very briefly.: An indwelling ureteral stent is removed in one of two ways. A quick pull on a little string to pull it out of the urethra, or by using a flexible scope to enter the bladder and pulling out the stent with forceps. Both can cause bladder discomfort and some flank pain as it is quickly removed. Some residual pain can linger for a day or two. Pain can be variable with many feeling no pain.

how dangerous is an angioplasty with stent?

Not very: Ptca w stenting has come a long way in recent  years with better equipment and easier to place devices (smaller caliber stents).  Drug-eluting stents have reduced restenosis (renarrowing) rates, now occurring less than 5-10 % oprocedural success with better tools that we now have  is very high (greater than 95%).  Risks (mi,  vessel closure, dissection, perforation) collectively are less than 1%.
