Different rashes: erythema toxucum is a rash usually seen after birth consisting of effervescent rash spotty rash, not itchy and resolves spontaneously without ant treatment. It is not toxic nor can it  spread to others. Eczema is a more chronic skin condition with red, dar and staley rashes, often itchy and can be triggerecby the environment, foods, shapes etc and can be treated to alleviate symptoms.

None I'm aware of: Erythema toxicum is a transient condition affecting 1/3 to 1/2  of newborns & is relatively easy to diagnose on exam. I don't need a confirmatory test. Microscopic exam of some of the tiny blisters will yield eosinophils,  a white cell associated with allergy.It's a cute test but i haven't done one since medical school.

Erythema Toxicum: There are several rashes that are common in the newborn period, this is one of them. It looks bad because it is a red splotch with a little white pustule in the middle but it does not cause him any itching or discomfort. It will disappear on its own in about a week.

Transient rash: Erythema toxicum is a very common rash affecting newborn babies, typically shows up on second day of life and stays 2-3 days.  Cause is still elusive and no treatment is necessary.  The original meaning of erythema in greek was "bug bite.".

Do nothing: Erythema toxicum is benign, asymptomatic self-limited rash, does not need treatment and I am not aware of any effective treatment. Normal skin care for newborn, avoidance of chemicals and fragrances will suffice.

Erythema Toxicum: Congratulations on your new baby.  The rash of erythema toxicum typically goes away within two weeks, but can last up to four months. There is no need to do anything more than bring your baby in for regular pediatric visits so your doctor can follow.

Not usually: I have never see n iti n a 6 week old. It is primarily in the first 48 hours of life and resolves by a week of age.  It could be viral...Have your child seen if it is concerning to you.

Rash in newborn: ETN is not likely the cause (usually in first few days to 2 wks).  Neonatal acne is common and generally starts around 3 weeks of age.  Yes, neonatal acne can cover the areas mentioned.  Another common rash to be considered is seborrheic dermatitis - this rash will typically have flaky patches as well.  No treatment for acne, severe seborrhea may be tx with low dose steroid (ask your pediatrician)

Patience: The best treatment for a newborn rash is patience.If you keep the skin clean, it will self heal without external creams or lotions in most cases.Those that appear too extensive should be evaluated by the kids doc.
