prescribed z-pack for 7 days for travelers diarrhea. had normal stools until last day of z-pack, then had very loose stools. 1month since the end of my z-pack and i still have loose stools. already taking probiotics. can loose stools last this long?

Giardia? IBS?: Azithromycin is effective against only some causes of traveler&#x27;s diarrhea, not all. But even without Rx, TD usually resolves entirely within a month. Loose stools due to the antibiotic also should not last this long. You should be evaluated for other causes, such as giardia, an intestinal parasite common in some travelers. Also, new research shows that TD can trigger irritable bowel syndrome.

Loose stools: Dairy products are not recommended for patients with diarrhea,so curd will not be a good choice, you can give rice, apple, bananas &amp; keep him hidrated with clear fluids such as pedialyte.  Good luck.

Stool studies: You may have contracted a bowel infection. The 3 main causes are c. Difficile toxin, ova & parasites, and bacterial colitis (yersinia, campylobacter, shigella). If you have cramping abdominal pain, perhaps even with bloody diarrhea; there is more of a reason to see your fp and submit a stool specimen for analysis. This will most quickly give you the answer and then the treatment.

Loose stools: I prefer not to use medicines but rather change in diet for a few days. Eliminate milk and milk products except for lemon or vanilla yogurt. Give bananas,rice, fresh apples,dry toast or Cheerios and yogurt for 3-5 days. The motions will harden up!

Get a check up: You are having diarrhea along with itching.  This may related to acute hepatitis-a virus infection or amebic gastro-enteritis.   Please contact your doctor for a thorough exam.

Unlikely: Assume you mean janumet (sitagliptin and metformin) (a combination of two antidiabetic drugs). This material is usually very rapidly absorbed, but i always assume that anything is possible, so i never say never. Cannot tell what the material in your stool is, but if you take a specimen to the doctor perhaps it can be tested.

Diarrhea: When you say "loose motions", i think diarrhea or loose, frequent bowel movements. If that's the case, you want to first be sure that you don't see any blood in the stool, that you don't have fever/sweats/chills, or abdominal pain out of the ordinary. Black tarry stools are also a bad sign, too. Your pharmacist can point you to many over-the-counter anti-diarrhea treatments.
