could you tell me if someone drinks three or four glasses of wine a night, will they inevitably put on weight?

A problem?: First of all that sounds like a lot of wine for anyone, especially a woman. If your additional wine consumption calories are greater than your total caloric expenditure, then you will have surplus and gain weight. Alcohol doesn't add any nutritive benefit, so they are empty calories. Rule of thumb: to maintain weight, calories consumed  have to equal calories expended. Excess is stored.

can i take .25mg clonazepam for a hangover? i had four glasses of wine last night, last one around 8:30pm and its now 10am. im just so anxious because i rarely drink that much?

Accepted Answer

: I tell my patient it is good to get a hangover to remind you why you don't drink too much too often. Your body is talking, nay shouting, to you. Don't do this or you will see what happens.

i rarely drink, one to four glasses of wine per month. i get squeezing chest pain after a half glass . allergy? goes away after few hours.

Accepted Answer

Possible: Is there a difference between red or white wine.  Also, do you notice a difference with eating or not.  You could have food allergy, but wine is an alcohol and that can make you more prone to reflux.

Accepted Answer

No: try to slow your intake down next time.  You will urinate the excess water thanks to the wine.  Avoid this also "when wine becomes your water".

Unstable INR: There are many foods and supplements that affect blood viscosity (thinness/thickness); some contain vitamin k which tends to thicken blood; others act like blood thinners. Accepted Answer

You decide: Don't abuse it, don't allow it to affect your behavior, and remember that the supposed health benefits (if they are real) aren't spectacular and shouldn't be a lifestyle consideration. Drink or not, as you wish.

drank about a bottle of wine a day for 1 or 2 years. a month ago, i cut back to 1-2 glasses a week- and i feel ok. should worry of withdrawals now?

Don't worry.: Good for you for backing off.  That was way too much.  Some people say that  1-2 glasses of wine a day for women is still too high for safety.  Consider less,  You will have no withdrawal symptoms this late.

when taking 0.5mg ativan (lorazepam) prn (about once a week or less), how many days must one wait before having 1-2 glasses of wine (standard 5 oz glasses)?

Accepted Answer

Half-life = 12-16hrs: Half your dose may still be in your system after 16 hrs, etc.  You can figure the days. If you really do stop at 2 normal wine servings, a day or two should be fine but you might want to have a reliable adult around to drive, etc if you feel less than sharp. Moderation sounds comfortable to you - that's good!

is 2-4 glasses of wine per week okay with diabetic neuropathy? i was recently diagnosed but work in the wine industry, looking to find out if occasional drinking in moderation is okay, or if i need to find a change of careers.?

: Depends on what you mean by glass. Some are 4 oz others can be liter.  Usually 2 6 oz glasses per day is max recommended. Ask Dr about alcoholic neuropathy as well. Need detailed drinking history.

i had black smelly soft stool, the first part of my stool was regular brown, firm. followed by semi liquid black tar like stool. the night before i'd drunk two glasses of (red) malbec wine.. over there past few weeks my stools have been more light coloure

Accepted Answer

Possible melena?: If in setting of alcohol, NSAID/aspirin use, etc may be higher likelihood that the described stool was melena, often caused by significant bleeding in upper GI tract, most often from ulcer. This would clearly require MD attention - would need more info, of course. Seek MD esp if re flags e.g. weakness/dizziness, nausea/vomit, fever, weight loss.
