rheumatoid arthritis for 7 yrs. on methotrexate & prednisone. tried so many drugs (orencia, enbrel, (etanercept) humira...). feeling defeated. what else can i try?

Arthritis: Try dietary changes.  There are forms of arthritis that respond to the restriction of certain things in the diet such as "nightshade arthritis", etc.  Check out dr ronald hoffman.  He is an amazing source of knowledge on diet and how it affects the body.  Hope this helps.

Yes: It depends on the disease being treated. For
psoriasis (my field is dermatology), there is
infliximab (remicade), ustekinemab (stelara), 
alefacept (amevive) - not used much now and golimumab (simponi) - not used much either.

is there a waiting period between changing from enbrel (etanercept) to humira? if so, how long? then how long before humira begins to work?

Accepted Answer

No: No waiting period needed   humors should yield reasonable benefit within 4-6 weeks.  I personally have not seen that going with one tnf agent to another produces better results.

Although: evidence may show some benefit, cost make it impractical .

None: There both basically work by the same mechanism which is inhibition of tnp.

No great...: No great differences. Enbrel (etanercept) is once weekly and Humira is once every two weeks. They have similar efficacy in large trials, but differences exist between individuals! both should be tried only after Methotrexate therapy has failed!
