No pinched nerves: A normal test would tell you that the nerves tested are not pinched or slow.  The normal EMG (the needle part of the test) would  tell you that the muscle are not showing signs of damage (to either the muscle itself or the nerves).

Diagnosis: Using small needles and mild electrical shocks, the EMG can test normal vrs abnormal nerve and muscle function, and show muscle, nerve, or neuromuscular connection problems.  Diagnosis of a pinched nerve in neck or back or leg or arm can be documented.  Based on this test, appropriate treatment can be initiated.

Emg: As far as I know EMG and nerve conduction study are one in the same . There is some pain and yes if you have a nerve injury and the area is already inflamed it could hurt more. The test is important to help figure out what's the source of your pain. :)

Peripheralneuropathy: What you are describing is not normal.  Do you diabetes or any type disease that can cause a peripheral neuropathy?  Should discuss with your physician and or a neurologist.  Without any other symptoms, unlikely to be from spinal  source

i was diagnosed with polyneruopathy after a nerve conduction test and i think a emg . now my knee is swollen and hurting . what happens now ?

Find out why: Swollen knee is not directly related to peripheral neuropathy.  You need to work up why you have peripheral neuropathy (? Diabetes, vitamin def, autoimmune dz, etc).  The underlying cause may be related to your swollen knee.

is it possible to get a nerve conduction test & not an emg? i have very severe anxiety with needles & the only way i would be able to do an emg is if i was knocked out. my occupational therapist thinks i may have trapped nerves on ulnar side?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and it is possible that you may not need EMG. It would be helpful to consult your primary care provider and if needed a rehabilitation medicine specialist. 
Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. 
Get HPV vaccine.

Generally accurate.: These tests are generally pretty accurate however this accuracy depends on the equipment and the skill of the person performing the tests. It is important to remember that even though the test results may show the nerves to have normal function, it is entirely possible to still feel pain.

No: Patients experience this test differently.  In my practice i tell patients that at the worst it may be a little uncomfortable.  Some docs use techs to perform the nerve conduction studies.  The EMG should be performed by the  physician.  I hope you have a good doc doing the test.  If you do then you should have little to no pain.

See below: The EMG portion uses a small needle to directly examine muscle function, and the nerve conduction part uses electrical shocks to measure nerve function.  Together the study gives a good idea of the nature of the pathology and location, but can also assess the prognosis and character, and gives often guidance towards an eventual diagnosis.
