There : There is something called called "olecranon bursitis" which is typically a painless swelling over the elbow.  The "bursa" is like a fluid-filled sac over our joints, but usually there is not much fluid in it.  If the bursa gets irritated, it can swell with fluid.  You can try anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen if you can tolerate that type of medication (and don't have a history of ulcers or bleeding problems), and place an ace wrap or compression dressing on the area.    Sometimes, the fluid in the bursa can get infected, and you would need to be seen immediately if you have redness, pain, red streaks from the area, or fever.  I have had patients try to drain the fluid on their own, and that can lead to infection.

Elbow disorder: A variety of elbow disorders can exist and range from congenital to acquired (vascular, infectious, autoimmune, metabolic, inflammatory, neoplastic, degenerative, environmental, idiopathic). Treatment is based on determining the etiology.

i have psoriasis on my elbows. they are doing great. there's no crust on them .they're perfect. i put my medication on twice a day. however, why is it that a small part of my arm going down to the elbow is dark?

: It would require physical examination to know better, however, it is likely post-inflammatory pigmentation and will fade gradually. It may take much longer than you may like, but it is harmless.

Initialtreatment r: Is still nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen,  naproxen, etc. For people who are allergic to this class of drug, drs will try steroids to decrease inflammation, opioids are only given to very severe pain and nsaids have failed or is  not enough. Always consult your dr if no relief is found after taking otc med, there might be something going on such as fracture or infection.

NSAID's: Celebrex (celecoxib) (which you have) is a very good choice. Rest may be the best medicine. Most tendinitis and associated joint conditions are from overuse or arthritis. See your doctor for a treatment plan that is specific for your ondition.

Therapy: Physical therapy, transverse massage, tennis elbow braces, rest, and cortisone injections (assuming you were referring to oral medication).

i have joint pains in the shoulder, elbow and wrist not sure what really to use for pain medication?

Accepted Answer

Upper extremity pain: Usually movement of the joint helps keep it functional and helps pain. If the pain is in the muscles or tendons, moist heat can help along with over the counter capsaicin or Voltaren  gel. Oral ibuprofen or Aleve is OK but irritates the stomach and affects the kidney.

Doctor Visit: Skin disorders are seen at best. A photo or by your description, it is in the location of what is called Psoriasis. Need more information to fully answer your question. Could always use a topical moisturizer or hand cream to see if it is just dry skin. See a doctor or a skin specialist called a dermatologist for complete diagnosis and treatment.

No: Your best bet is to see a plastic surgeon who may be able to reduce the amount of scar tissue. I don't think that a dermatologist can offer much help but it may be worth a visit to one for advice.

i was on methotrexate but seeing that there is no rheumatologist where i live i have not received any medication for my ra. i am also struggling with pain on the inside of my elbows.

RA: Most primary care physicians or specialists in internal medicine are capable of treating rheumatoid arthritis and can prescribe your methotrexate. The elbow discomfort is most likely a flare up of your RA since you're off your medication.
