GI consult: LPR often requires twice daily dosing of the PPI. If the problem is from bile , Carafate (sucralfate) may be more effective.
 If the problem is resistant to medical treatment , surgery may be needed.  Elavil would not do much for you and may in fact worsen the LPR.

Endep allergy: Endep (amitriptyline)  is a tricyclic antidepressant medication that is sometimes used for pain and sleep problems.  Allergic reactions can include difficulty breathing, hives and swelling of face, lips, throat, mouth or tongue.

: Relatively low dose and the combined drowsiness side effects should be minuscule.  The amitriptyline dose of 10mg for migraine is at homeopathic level.

i am taking amitriptyline 10mg for headache/sleep and experienced swollen toes. is it a side effect or allergy? any alternative med for amitriptyline?

Neither: a side effect nor an allergy to the drug, it may cause some water retention in your body, but not at this dose. Can't suggest an alternative on this platform, please see your doctor, or your neurologist, for assessment and an alternative to treat your headaches / sleep problems, good luck

Possible: It is certainly possible and thus stopping the drug for 1-2 weeks would be the prudent approach especially when the drug is not a life-sustaining one.  If the problem does not go away or improve significantly after 2 wks, will have to look for other reasons.

is 20mg lexapro (escitalopram) and 10mg elavil safe for g a d?

Caution: While the 10 mg dose of Elavil is low, combining with Lexapro (escitalopram) increases the risk for serotonin syndrome and  irregular heart rhythm. Also you are taking two antidepressants. If Lexapro (escitalopram) is not working, discuss with prescribing doctor to consider trying Elavil alone or another class of antidepressant. Be sure you have careful medical supervision while on these meds. I hope this helps.

i have been on elavil (amitriptyline) for a year or so, starting out at  25 and tapering to 10, which i have been on for 6  months or so. if i get off can i restart?

Yes: 10 mg of Elavil (amitriptyline) is a very low dose. That could be a starting dose at your age.  However,  I do not recommend that you make changes in your medications without consulting the MD who prescribed it.

what is the proper way to wean myself off of 25 mg of elavil if i've taken it for 3 weeks? however, because it is a short time taken .25 mg, can i stop it completely without weaning off?

:  Elavil can cause withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuation. The withdrawal effects from amitriptyline are not as bad as those for some other antidepressants. They can still be severe and incapacitating. Deceasing to half a pill for 10 days, then half a pill every other day for 10 days, then every 3rd day for 10 days is reasonable. Every decrease will give symptoms. Discuss with your doctor.

Yes.: Elavil (amitriptyline) has some "anticholinergic" properties. This can cause memory impairment, as well as dry eyes, dry mouth, and constipation. These effects are not permanent, and sometimes the body can adjust to them over time. Discuss this with your doctor.
