after an egg is released during ovulation dies it stays 24 hours or longer? im asking this because i have seen too many conflicting responses. some say 24 while some say 24-48 while some say 24-72. i know quality of egg is important but im confused?

: After released, an egg (ovum) survives less than 24 hours. The optimal time for the egg to be fertilized is about 4-6 hours after ovulation.

No: If you have confirmed ovulation than the follicle is most likely a cyst. It is not another egg.

Can't say: Remember your doctor cannot see eggs with ultrasound; what we count and measure are follicles - these are small cysts where the eggs 'live.' based on size of the follicles, we think we can predict when eggs are 'ready' for ovulation. Ask your doctor what you had and to explain what he/she thigks it means to you.

Lack of mucus: Not all women notice a mucus discharge around ovulation.  If it has been longer than 8 months of trying I suggest seeing an infertility specialist to get a work up and help you conceive.

Cooked salmonella: Cooked salmonella is not infectious. Types of salmonella that give humans disease are swallowed as live salmonella. That means a person who cooks his food well and then doesn't cross-contaminate his cooked food with live salmonella from other things in the kitchen or bathroom, can be fine. Also, if his raw food doesn't have salmonella, it can't give him salmonella even if not well cooked.

A can of worms!!: not a joke; the tapeworm is a marvel of function. Each segment (proglottid) progresses as the worm grows, becomes a hermaphroditic unit (meaning both male and female organs), fertilizes itself or is fertilized by other nearby worms) and becomes a gravid (eggs only) unit by the time is breaks off and is pooped out.  What you squash is what you get!!

Not necessarily: It's not uncommon to have some random spotting here and there during some cycles, due to short-term changes in your hormones which can be caused by stress and other environmental factors. If there was no egg seen then I wouldn't be so sure you ovulated at all. It's not particularly common to spot when you ovulate. Changes in cervical mucus are a better predictor of ovulation.
