Mild vs major: In patients with known severe reaction to eggs or chicken protein, the flu shot is not recommended.(injected or nasal) this includes those with hives, angioedema, allergic asthma or anaphylaxis. Those with minor local reactions to egg or feathers are not considered at risk. See aap/red book 28ed.2009.

Tiny amt in vaccine: Injected  flu vaccine begins its life growing in culture (planted) using chicken eggs as a host medium. A tiny amount of egg protein may be in each dose & some recommend that anyone with a major egg reaction ( generalized hives, short of breath, abdominal pain) avoid the vaccine. Those with minimal reactions usually do ok with it.

Very variable...: Eggs are one of the most common allergy-causing foods in children.
Symptoms can occur minutes to a few hours after eating eggs or foods containing eggs. Signs and symptoms range from mild to severe skin rashes, hives, nasal inflammation, and vomiting or other digestive problems. Rarely, egg allergy can cause anaphylaxis — a life-threatening reaction.

Depends: In the baking process the protein structure of an egg may be broken down to the point it does not trigger an allergic reaction. Products like icing or whipped egg whites as a pie topping would not fall in this category. Not all egg allergy is created equal. Some just break out in a rash & some can have abdominal pain, difficulty breathing & may go into shock. I don't take chances if a big reaction.

Many options: Fruits, veggies and grains of course. Protein foods- he/she may eat meats. Their is no reason to not eat meats with egg/milk allergy. Can also try soy products such as soy milk and tofu. Also almonds and almond milk. Walnuts and beans are good protein sources. How was the egg/milk allergy diagnosis made? How severe is the allergy? Did u c an allergist? If so ask them about eating peanuts.

my toddler was recently prescribed an epi pen jr for an egg allergy.  it came with 2 pens. should i carry both of them or only one?

One: Carry 1 with you at all times, and keep 1 at home, so that if you use the one you carry, you will have some until you can get a refill.
