i have a rash on my arms and legs that look like eczema or something can i send you a picture to take a look and tell me what to do without going to the doctor please?

my baby has a red bump on his stomach and some white dry patch looking spots on the back of his arm.  it doesn't look like eczem i can send pictures if necessary

It : It may be a fungal or bacterial infection, amongst many other things including eczema. Regardless instead of sending a picture, you should take the baby in to see his doctor. Rashes can be harmless or dangerous, it's very difficult for a mother to know, therefore a medical professional should be the one to make a diagnois or suspected diagnosis after an examination in his/her office. If necessary a dermatologist (skin doctor) can be consulted.

what are some ways to get rid of eczema on my arms?

Moisturize/cortisone: To treat mild to moderate eczema, Hydrocortisone 1% cream (use a thin coat on the rash, twice a day, for 5-10 days) is cheap, found at most stores, and works well. A daily moisturizing cream used 2-4 times a day helps to heal eczema & to prevent return of the rash. Examples: cetaphil, cerave, eucerin. Some people avoid creams with lanolin, aloe, or fragrances due to sensitivity to the ingredients.

keratosis pilaris: Kp or keratosis pilaris is a common skin finding associated with eczema.  The raised papules commonly occur as plugs in the hair follicles on the upper arms and outer thighs.  They usually do not itch significantly.  Treatment is available (for cosmetic purposes) but not necessary.

If you have eczema: If you have eczema already, this may well be a flare-up or a secondary infection. People with eczema are more likely to develop allergy to contact allergens at the skin surface.  You did not mention whether the rash was an itchy one or not.

See derm: See dermatologist for the answer but you probably have seborrheic dermatitis.

Accepted Answer

Many: Whatever triggers your eczema (airborne allergens, foods etc) can bring on this flare-up. Dry weather can do the same.  Be sure you apply a moderate-thickness skin moisturizer within 3 minutes after bathing to improve skin hydration.
