i have small little clusters of blisters on my feet which i think are dyshidrotic eczema. (had since a kid) but now its flaring up a lot. i previously used steroid(0.05%) treatment but after a few days of not using, it came back. how can i treat it?

: You may need a prescription ointment to treat your eczema. If you see a skin doctor, they can treat it more effectively than over the counter treatments. The itchy blisters: Also known as pomphylix, is an intensely itchy that can be acute, chronic, or recurrent dermatosis of the fingers, palms, and soles, frequently with sudden onset of many deep-seated itchy, clear vesicles; later, scaling, fissures which can cause pain. It is diffult to treat and often requires potent steroids. There are other treatments. Consult doc/dermatologist for eval. Good luck.

Nothing great OTC: Dyshidrosis affects hands and feet where the skin is quite thick and tough. Hard for medications even to get through to the live layers of skin. Hydrocortisone 1% ointment is probably the best OTC there is, and if you wear cotton gloves over a generous application that may help improve penetration but prescription medication is best.

Itchy finger bumps: Dyshidrotic eczema is a very itchy rash of little bumps on the fingers or hands, and may occur on the feet. The bumps may have some fluid inside, but don't break open (unless one scratches harshly) like chicken pox or herpes sores. Dyshidrosis is usually treated with prescription cortisone cream for 1-2 weeks, plus moisturizers like CeraVe. Hydrocortisone 1% may or may not be strong enough.

Cause unknown: Cause likely multifactorial. Characterized by sudden eruption of itchy vesicles on palms, soles, lateral aspects of the fingers. Vesicles persist for weeks, dry out, then resolve with skin peeling. Episodes may recur every 3-4 weeks for months/years. Daily moisturzation, avoid irritants/allergens, or exacerbating factors. Reduce stress. If unresponsive, high potency topical steroids are effective.
