No: The ACL torn is from an injury not overuse.  Injuries occur with falls and you are more likley to fall when tired or distracted, when using a new board, going out in rough. If you are surfing or participating in any sporting endeavor, there is always the risk of knee injury and that includes ACL tear, but you can minimize the risks by being alert, careful, and staying healthy.

Avulsion fracture: Tibial spine fractures are characterized by fractures at the insertion site of the anterior cruciate ligament (acl) on the tibia and were first classified into 3 types. For displaced (type ii/iii) fractures, surgical treatment has included fixation with screws, sutures, or wires performed through either open or arthroscopic approaches. Optimal treatment methods remain controversial.

Blood supply: Because an acl is about 1cm thick, it takes time for the body grow into the replacement and recreate the structure of the original acl. There is no blood vessels that run through the acl graft, so the nutrients and cells that provide the replacement material must come from the joint fluid inside the knee, and the bone marrow from the ends of the graft. All this takes 6-8 months to accomplish.

Kind of: Most acl tears are complete or grade 3 tears. It is rare that an acl tear is a partial tear or a grade 2 injury. A MRI is really not the best way to tell a partial (grade 2) tear from a complete tear; regardless of what the MRI report says. A physical exam with testing of the ligament is the best determinant.  In general, an acl tear in a complete tear 95% of the time. Partial tears are rare.

Yes: After an acl reconstruction, the chances of tearing the acl again are somewhere between 10 and 30 percent. The same mechanism that tore the first one can tear the reconstruction. If you are asking whether you can tear an acl more than once without a reconstruction, then the answer is no. The torn acl does not heal on its own. It can scar down, but will rarely function like the original.

Usually in active: Individuals. Kids are certainly more active now on sports more  than ever.  The youngest  I've seen an acl tear is about 9-10. Typically the bone bends or breaks before the Acl in  young kids

Variable: This is variable from person to person...Take derrick rose for example. Most people are able to return to their desired activity by 6-9 months. Discuss this time frame with your surgeon as it will depend on their protocol.

Yes: Acl tears occur with twisting or pivotig movement of the leg while weight bearring or a blow to the leg 

cheerleading can involve athletic maneuvers to do this
soccer football skiing etc also

Pop, swelling: An acl tear classically involves either a hyperextension or valgus contact (blow to outside of knee)mechanism of injury. Symptoms include hearing or feeling a 'pop' in the knee w/ immediate pain. Significant swelling ( hemarthrosis) w/in 24 hrs.Of the injury is common. Sometimes a feeling of 'looseness' is felt if the patient walks after the injury.An exam by an experienced ors will confirm.
