ive been experiencing a maddening crawling/worming sensation in my r-ear canal, increasing in frequency recently. its not painful, doesnt itch, no sickness precipitating it. it pauses for a few minutes when i touch it, but always comes back. help?

: There is likely a foreign body, e.g. a short piece of hair, in the external auditory canal. You should see your doctor for a brief ear exam.

A few possibilities: There are several types of infections that can cause these symptom.s  How long have you had them?  If you feel like you can't swallow or are having any trouble breathing, you should go to the emergency room. Otherwise, I would be seen in the next day or two to be evaluated for infection.

Ear trauma: If your hearing is OK there will be no resultant problem aside from your pride being challenged.  KIf you do have a problem best to see an eent doctor to determine the deficit and the significance of it.

my friend is concerned she might have cancer. she feels tired, neck hurts and swollen lymph nodes under jaw and neck and breast. one ear canal is inflamed and back of skull on one side is sore. her sinuses are clear. dry throat but not sore.

?cancer: while what you have described above looks like an infection. Anyone who is concerned that they may have cancer should go to be seen by their doctor. even if its revealed to be an infection - its worth it for peace of mind

Your call: It may work its way out over time day or night. A  little mineral oil on the plug may help in time. Many GP's and all ENT docs would have special tweezers or forceps that can remove it safely &amp; verify the canal was not damaged.

Not Your Day, Is It?: First you say it's leaking out and now it's stuck.This is not your day, is it?Now don't go jamming something in there. Just be calm and lie on that side for 15-20 minutes and see if gravity helps get it out. If so,then when you put drops in there and it gets stuck just do the same thing again.If nothing works, as I suspect might be the case with you, then see your doctor.He'll take a direct  look

Very rare: Cancer of ear canal is vanishing rare.
Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk , nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs.

Usually not.: As you might imagine, the ear canal is somewhat protected from exposure.  You are much more likely to have signs and symptoms of allergy in other locations first.  Usually this is due to ear wax or retained water with maceration of the skin or by a skin disease such as seborrheic dermatitis.
