Many and varied: Depending on the problem, signs can include nausea and vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, bleeding from the rectum, abdominal cramping, weight loss or gain or no symptoms at all. If you suspect some sort of problem with your colon, see your doc right away for an examination and evaluation.

May not be any: Signs and symptoms may not occur till cancer growth is large. Sometimes stool can test positive for blood due to occult bleeding but sensitivity is 50%--colonoscopy is recommended to evaluate further.

Sometimes...: Bloating, irregular stools, and fullness may reflect diet (check your fiber intake), alterations in the population of healthy gut flora we each carry, food intolerances, maldigestion due to problems of the small intestine, pancreas, or biliary tree, changes in GI motility (how well your GI tract mixes and moves food along), various infections, and even irritable bowel syndrome.  Testing is easy.

hi i have normal fbc except my rdw is 15.1. i have read rdw is an early sign of colon cancer should i be concerned? blood film was fine also . thank you?

: Your red cell distribution width or RDW will be normal by most labs and I am not aware of the RDW being used in clinical practice as an early sign of colon cancer, has too many possible explanations otherwise. Clarify with your ordering doc, most likely your labs are normal.

my son was told after a colonoscopy, that his small intestines were on one side of his body and his colon on the other.  his birth weight was only 4lbs and 5 oz. born only two weeks early he was considered full term. can this cause problems later?

Hard to know: The colon is part of your intestine so i'm not sure what your son was really told.  I suspect that he was told he has a malrotation (though this is difficult to tell from colonoscopy).  This is a dangerous condition and needs to be surgically corrected asap- to be able to say more i'd need to know the medical terms that were used.

Yes and yes: Aphthous stomatitis involving the common canker sore can occur in up to 15% of americans, and may involve some bacteria like staph epidermidis.  However, similar-appearing aphthous ulcers can be seen with herpes, crohn's disease, and other systemic disorders,  you are appropriately concerned about your health--please consult a local physician for evaluation ; targeted treatment, as needed.

does colon wall thickening go away once it is there? i had giardia 3 years ago and was diagnosed with diverticulitis by ct scan. does div have any other telltale signs by ct scan? im only 30 years old and have had zero constipation problems previous.

Colon wall: If the thickening was the result of only one episode of diverticulitis, it may eventually recede. Repeated episodes of colon inflammation could cause permanent thickening or constrictive scarring. A gastroenterologist or colorectal surgeon can advise you best.
