Height is genetic: Girls still grow after menarche (starting their periods) , on average 2 to 4 inches, though peak growth spurts will have generally already occurred.  How tall an individual will be is  determined by genetics and overall health and nutrition.

Precautious puberty: Depends on the age of the girl and ethnicity. It is not considered early if a girl get periods 9 years or older. African american girls tend to get their periods earlier. It also depends on family history . If family members went through puberty earlier. A girl who gets periods before 9 yrs of age should be evaluated. It can also have an effect on the adult height.

The height increase only occurs in females with 47, XXX until the growth plates in the long bones fuse (which occurs relatively later in 47, XXX females than in 46, XX). Once the growth plates are fused, there is no increase in linear height.

Precocious : Precocious puberty (early puberty) is any evidence of puberty in a girl younger than 8 or a boy younger than 9. This is usually first explored with a history, physical, a study of your child's growth chart and possibly a bone age. A bone age is an x-ray - typically of the child's wrist - to show whether the child is maturing and growing faster, slower or on time with their actual age.

All this information can help tell whether the child is developing normally after all and should just be watched or whether they should have further work-up to determine if there is a hormone problem causing the early puberty. If you are still concerned, speak with your child's pediatrician again. If you are not satisfied with their answer, then a pediatric endocrinologist is the specialist that handles the work-up, diagnosis and treatment of these problems.
