Deafness: Damage to hearing is more likely from using headphones and related devices. Infection may occur if the device causes irritation to the lining of the ear canal. Cancer is not likely.

could a lump under the skin of my armpit be caused by ear infection? i wore a earing for too long my ear is now blue or is it cancer? i get chills too

Accepted Answer

No: any pathology in the ear even by an earing would show up as a nodal problem in the upper neck region.  The armpit drains the arm and chest wall on the side of the armpit.  If the ear is turning blue that is from decreased blood supply secondary to an infection resulting from the ear piercing.  Warm soaks  and antibiotics may help.

swollen neck lymph node for close to three years now.enlarged due to an ear infection but nvr went away. cbc ok and ct diagnosis 8mm. hasn't grown.cancer?

Accepted Answer

Very unlikely: 8mm is small if it's been there 3 years.  Expect it to stay there forever since it's probably calcified.  Only worry if it starts to grow or you get several more.  Otherwise you can relax and maybe check it with your fingers no more than once a month.

Teen cancer is rare: The normal hard lumps in the head and neck are bones, which are symmetrical (left side same as right side). A newly-found hard lump should be evaluated to see if it is bone, or more commonly a lymph node or a cyst. A lymph node on the back skull can fee like rubber bean. If worried, an ENT doctor can look at it, and advise on whether to watch it or remove it. If truly bone, a scan may be needed.

how seriously does an adult have to take an ear infection? i took antibio's last time, now may be getting another one, but must i run to the dr?

Monitor: Well over half of ear infections are caused by viruses, and antibiotics would not be helpful. Even in young kids now, the recommendations are to try and wait it out. Take pain relief meds if needed, "pop" your ears or chew gum to try to equalize pressure. If pain gets severe, drainage, high fever of other concerning associated symptoms, then see doctor. But over 50-50 it will clear by itself.

i've had an ear infection for two weeks, i do have hidrandenitis suppurativa how can i get rid of it as an adult? inside of ear is highly swollen?

Need to see ENT: Your hidradenitis is not likely related to your ear infection. Your infection is a separate issue. You need to see your regular doctor for treatment  or preferably an ENT doctor. It sounds like you might have an outer ear infection, but there can be other types of problems affecting the outer ear. Need to get checked and treated. For the hidradenitis, seek treatment with a general surgeon. There are some new treatments available, but this is not my area of expertise.

Middle ear infections present w/deeper ear discomfort, decreased hearing and possible drainage (if ear drum ruptured). Seeing a specialist is important to treat and make sure nothing more going on nearby that is concerning.

Ear infection: Depends on what part of the ear is infected. Usually fullness and pressure type pain. At times pulsating. The tympanic membrane is dull or irritated and may be bulging. Hearing is reduced and there may be dizzyness. May or may not be fever.
