There is no medication that specifically treats this common viral infection, but symptoms can be helped with tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen, warm salt water gargles and tincture of time - steroids maybe.

If you have pus on your tonsils, fever, tender lymph nodes in your neck or a very painful throat see your md and have strep throat/gc ruled out.  Take over the counter throat lozenges and tylenol (acetaminophen) for symptomatic relief.
