Swimming and yeast: Hello Karla,  swimming can cause or worsen a yeast infection. A wet environment promotes the growth of yeasts and so if you do not remove wet swimming clothes promptly or don't dry yourself off then you can worsen a yeast infection. So dry off thoroughly and you should be okay.

ABSOLUTELY NOT: Yeast is only one cause of vaginal infections, but it is common. Others are caused by bacteria, like gonorrhea and chlamydia, and bacterial vaginosis. Some viruses also bother the vagina, like herpes and hpv.

Yeast infection: Yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis can both be transmitted back to you by organisms colonizing the surface of your sexual partner's penis. Have him use topical medications to try and reduce or eliminate this carriage, and treat the yeast infection orally with Fluconazole for one month through a menstrual period while he is doing this.  Acidify your vagina with whatever your gyn recommends.

Get re-checked: It is not uncommon that the yeast infection may have been the result of the  antibiotic treatment for the first infection or was already present but was "masked" until the first infection was properly treated. Get re-checked by the MD for the possible yeast infection.

: If you're having symptoms (primarily vaginal itching and irritation, perhaps discharge), these results suggest a yeast infection. If so, or if uncertain, discuss treatment with your doctor. She might suggest one of the many over-the-counter treatments with active ingredient ending in "azole" (miconozole, terconazole, etc) or single dose oral fluconazole (Diflucan®). Good luck.

Boric Acid suppositories can help stabilize the pH and prevent the overgrowth of Yeast and BV. Starting Nuvaring continuously helps maintain normal vaginal pH and can also help prevent. See if those help.

Try : Try using an over the counter yeast infection cream; apply it to the outside of your vagina (affected area) for a few days twice a day. If that does not work visit your doctor for an evaluation. It may be a bacterial infection requiring antibiotics.
